This vacation house is located on a rural estate in the town of Huentelauquén in the fourth region. It is facing the sea, on the edge of a windswept plateau, and built 40 meters above the beach. It stretches along the length of this horizontal edge, and is buried so as to disappear into the plateau’s ground, with only 5 chimneys sticking out like watchtowers facing the sea. In the layout, the rooms are aligned in a line to face the ocean horizon, away from the retaining wall of the property at its back, creating a sunken courtyard sheltered from the wind. The living and dining rooms are open on both sides throughout its length with a pair of running windows, suspended between the ocean horizon and the excavated area of the courtyard. The courtyard is the main feature of the house, and from it, the house opens up to the horizon through the double running window of the living room. The interior of the house is accessed through this living room, with the master bedroom and its toilet on one side, and the kitchen with the service areas on the opposite side. The 4 children and guest bedrooms are placed in a series and are accessed from the covered walkway that runs along the courtyard outside.
Under the floor of the living room and kitchen, there is another living room which continues into an open terrace facing the sea. This terrace is accessed from the inner courtyard by going down the stairway that cuts through the house. By having the terrace in front of the lower-floor living room, the visual angle from this main room toward the breaker is not cut off. This embraces the view of the whole sea, from the horizon to the beach.
