A group of Chilean architects was highly distinguished and awarded the second place in a public complementary landscape contest for the new airport of the city of Hefei, capital of the Anhui province.
The results of the contest were known in mid March and the work of the Chilean professionals was directed by architects Marianne Balze and Miguel Contreras, who led a team made up of the offices URBE, Balze Arquitectos, Carlos Elton y Asociados, Badia y Soffia Arquitectos, Isla Sandoval Arquitectos and MAO Arquitectos.
The project had to cover an area of 50 hectares, and the proposal of the Chilean architects was inspired in the plantations of the province of Anhui and the traditional Chinese kites. The jury highlighted the creativeness of the proposal, which consisted in a harmonic, sustainable structure, strongly rooted in the geographical context of the region and that used water as one of its main components.
The first place was awarded to an architects' office of Shanghai.
Participation in this contest is the result of the Plan for the Promotion and Positioning of Chilean Architecture in China, "Country Image" project carried out by the Association of Chilean Architect Offices (AOA) and supported by CORFO's Sectorial Brands Committee.
The Plan for Promoting and Positioning Chilean Architecture in China was launched at the end of last year in the Asian country and, within its activities, it considers the participation of the AOA at the Expo Shanghai during the month of July.
